Neighbourhood LAB program - I'm in!

I’ve been selected by Platform Arts. Geelong as one of six artists in the G21 area to receive a Neighbourhood LAB grant. This program runs for six months and apart from a financial stipend, supports artists through collaboration, connection and mentoring to explore artistic processes within their communities and with each other.

I’ve met the other artists briefly on Zoom and can’t wait to start learning from and collaborating with them.

Solitude is essential for poetry writing but I sometimes feel isolated as I know other artists do. I applied for the program because I was excited to learn from other creatives across disciplines and to extend my practice.

The success of the local Fireside Poetry night last August showed me many poets are writing quietly in and around Birregurra. I’m keen to encourage them to speak up and have their poetry heard.

Performing at the Birre Pub in March as part of International Women’s Day celebration 2024.

Platform Arts, based on Wadawurrung Country in Djilang/Geelong, works with artists and creative practitioners across all disciplines to develop and sustain rigorous and critical artistic practice, and to test and present new experimental and contemporary works to regional and national audiences.

We lead this through our program of events, exhibitions and performances, while providing a support framework including mentorship, collaboration, residency programs and workshops.
